The HeyTown Art Center is part of an ambitious project to regenerate a declining industrial zone, not far from Beijing’s CBD, by transforming the area into a funky precinct for exhibitions, cultural events, performing arts and festivities. Overlooking an elevated railway, the centre’s exterior is a nod to its past and future, a combination of traditional red brick and semi-reflective aluminium cladding which captures the ever-changing light. It is the centre piece of an emerging cultural hub.
