Once a rundown store at the entrance of this remote rural Chinese village, the Majialong Village Activity Building is now a multifunctional activity and communication centre for the local community. An ancient zelkova schneideriana tree, a native and part of the elm family, is embedded into the building and an important landmark for the indigenous villagers. The irregular roof has openings to accommodate the tree and reinforce the flow of indoor and outdoor space.
