To evolve the design of the 54,000 sqm International School of Beijing to represent the diversity of its 1,650 students from Early Years 3 to Grade 12 from 50 countries and its innovative learning programs, the designers treated each learning community within the school as an independent “image”. A montage of spaces was then created within the existing “over-unified’ architectural framework. Five distinctive learning communities are presented in different colours and placemaking adaptable to students’ age and learning programs.
