Design Philosophy:
I am KUN, founder of KUNDESIGN, and my work focuses on creating outdoor furniture that bridges nature, urban life, and contemporary design. My design philosophy, “By Nature,” comes from the belief that design should be inspired by and work harmoniously with the natural environment. I strive to fuse environmental compatibility, material properties, and modern trends, creating pieces that are expressive, durable, and full of vitality while retaining their essential quality.
In my practice, I emphasize sustainability by replacing traditional wood and natural vine with renewable and recyclable materials, and by rethinking leftover materials through creative redesign. This approach allows me to introduce distinctive color palettes, long-lasting materials, and decorative hand-woven details into outdoor furniture, while expanding their relevance in broader design contexts.
My portfolio spans outdoor furniture, planters, screens, accessories, and lighting, all aimed at increasing interaction with nature and outdoor life in urban settings. Over the years, I have had the privilege to present my work and brand at numerous prestigious design fairs worldwide, including Salone del Mobile.Milano (2016), spoga+gafa Cologne (2017), Maison&Objet Paris (2018–2020), NYC Design Festival (2018), ICFF New York (2018–2019), Design China Beijing (2018–2019), Furniture China (2018, 2023), CIFF Guangzhou (2018–2024), Design Shanghai (2018–2024), and Design Shenzhen (2023). These experiences have broadened my perspective and inspired me to continually explore new ideas in material, form, and sustainability.
I hope to be considered among the 40 Under 40 winners because I believe my work represents a thoughtful and forward-looking approach to design—one that balances aesthetics, functionality, and environmental responsibility. Recognition would be an encouragement to further refine my practice and continue contributing to meaningful, sustainable, and contemporary outdoor design, inspiring more people to engage with nature in urban life.
