Joanne Gay

Title: Senior Associate
Company: DP Architects
Design Philosophy:

Joanne Gay believes that the derivation of good design is similar to solving simultaneous equations and comes with good listening. She takes a long-term perspective to guide interim steps of design in order to achieve the final solution, which has allowed her to thrive in navigating complex projects. This combined with her interest in Healthcare projects led her to joining DP Architect’s Healthcare Typology group where she is able to develop specialisation in this field.

A registered architect, she also believes that design that truly changes lives and behaviour come from astute understanding of the user’s needs and wants, before placing a line on the paper. This guided her 10 years of designing hospitals together with the various stakeholders. Consistency and clarity, in the large and small scale, is key in ensuring a complete delivery of every project.

In her course of work, Joanne is passionate about providing mentorship to younger architects by creating an open and creative training environment. One of her key roles for the Elective Care Centre was equipping and educating the then young team with better understanding of design specifics of the healthcare typology, while guiding and working alongside together to realise its improved design and detailing.

Her team player skills have been honed from years of Softball, culminating in selection for the National Women’s Softball Team in the 2019 SEA Games. These abilities are translated from sport into working with large teams necessary for hospital projects, comprising consultants, clients and operators. Combining proficiency with empathy, she is constantly able to move the team toward a common goal, for the good of each project.
