Design Philosophy:
In my 13 years of architectural practice, I resonate with Rocco Yim’s assertion that ""Architecture is the Art of Problem-solving."" However, I believe it is equally important to recognize that Architecture is also the Art of Creating Problems. While it addresses immediate challenges, it simultaneously generates new contradictions that foster technological and functional advancements—this interplay is where its true value lies.
Throughout my career, I have led and participated in over 12 architectural competitions, embodying this philosophy in my work. A notable example is the OCT Headquarters project, where I innovatively shaped the building’s form to create pressure differentials that facilitate natural ventilation. This design not only resolved functional issues but also introduced new challenges, encouraging further innovation and exploration.
My contributions have been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including the CRED AWARD GOLDEN and The Plan. These achievements reflect my commitment to a design process that first addresses site conditions, functional requirements, and client needs, and then leverages the unique qualities of architecture to generate new questions and complexities. This approach enhances the overall level of innovation within each project and promotes collaboration across disciplines.
I prioritize teamwork and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that diverse perspectives enrich the creative process. By embracing both the challenges of problem-solving and the opportunities that arise from generating new questions, we expand the potential of what architecture can achieve.
In summary, my role centers on advocating for a design philosophy that recognizes architecture’s dual function: solving problems while simultaneously creating new ones. This balanced approach not only enriches the architectural landscape but also drives the industry forward, fostering greater innovation and meaningful progress in our built environment.
