PERSPECTIVE Interview
Two decades of Italian design in Hong Kong
Susanna Minotti, head of Interior Decoration of the Italian furniture company Minotti, recently visited Hong Kong to celebrate Minotti’s 20th anniversary in the market through their exclusive relationship with retailer Andante. PERSPECTIVE caught up with Susanna (photographed above) during her business trip to get a deeper insight into the company’s heritage, presence across Asia and thoughts on the future.
PERSPECTIVE: From Minotti’s relatively humble beginnings in Italy you have seen significant growth internationally. What are the principles that led to such success?
Susanna:
My Grandfather, Alberto Minotti, founded the company in Italy in 1948 really as an artisan workshop, but his creative vision and aesthetic principles laid the foundation for our growth.
During the 1960s, Minotti evolved into a more industrial scale. Renato and Roberto, both co-CEOs and the second generation of Minotti, took over the running of the company in 1991 guiding its continued expansion and, in 1998, establishing a long-standing collaboration with designer Rodolfo Dordoni.

PERSPECTIVE: You now have a team of designers. How is it possible to maintain the DNA of the company with diverse talents and continued growth?
Susanna:
‘Made in Italy’ is at the heart of Minotti’s culture and today we permanently meld tradition and innovation. However, since 2018, the brand has been collaborating with internationally renowned designers such as Nendo, Marcio Kogan / Studio MK27 and Gam Fratesi, whose distinctive approaches have brought global perspectives to Minotti’s design language.
From 2024, this creative dialogue has further expanded to include talented designers such as Hannes Peer and Giampiero Tagliaferri, who understand the DNA of Minotti, have a deep respect for the brand, but also have a desire to introduce new contemporary interpretations.

Andante’s Hong Kong store
PERSPECTIVE: Minotti has a long relationship with Hong Kong retailer Andante. Can you tell us more about this partnership?
Susanna:
Twenty-one years ago, it was a courageous step in establishing Andante as one of our first flagship stores worldwide, marking an important milestone in the brand’s presence across Asia.
A good example of the strength of this relationship dates back to the early days of our presence here, when Andante expressed the importance of having circular dining tables to cater for Chinese families’ needs.
At that time, Minotti did not produce such furnishings, but we initially designed a 1.8-meter circular table embracing the elegant, timeless style that is such a characteristic of Minotti. Following this, circular tables became an integral part of our collection.
