My design philosophy has evolved over the years but I would say it is rooted in Japanese technique and aesthetic. Clean lines, uncluttered spaces and a focus on functional features are points I look to incorporate into all my projects, whether it be for restaurants, retail or residential.
The wabi-sabi ethos is another aesthetic I tend to lean towards if it fits the brief that the client is looking for. I would happily choose materials with slight imperfections as I like to allow them to evolve and age gracefully.
Design East is a family run design and construction house that my father founded over 35 years ago. Since stepping into more of a managerial role these last few years I like to think that I have been successful in maintaining and building upon his legacy whilst adapting to the ever evolving design industry. Through an absolute team effort we have also expanded our client list to include some of the leading restaurant groups in the city as well as projects in China and Japan.
It has been a humbling experience to work with such esteemed clients and to see our designs come to life. I am grateful for the opportunities we have had to make a positive impact on the spaces we create. Being recognised alongside other talented young designers would be a tremendous validation of our team’s hard work, dedication, and commitment to delivering exceptional design solutions.
