Design Philosophy:
Architecture, as a significant medium for urban space and life, exerts a lasting impact on the surrounding environment and space for decades once constructed. With over a decade of experience in studying and practicing as a professional architect, I believe that architecture should be a comprehensive presentation of ambiance in a place, harmonizing space, form, function, and environment. Our ultimate focus should be on the users’ holistic experience and whether the building can sustain an emotional resonance with its occupants throughout its lifecycle.
My involvement in a variety of projects of different types and scales has taught me that each project is complex and non-reproducible. I am not inclined to adopt a fixed style to be applied across different project sites. Instead, I prefer to engage in thorough and detailed research to understand the characteristics of each site and urban environment, seeking subtle clues from history and the surrounding context to influence design, thereby seeking an architectural solution that is rooted in the spirit of the place and the environment, a regional outcome that combines logical rationality with creative sensibility.
Such an approach is not easy and may even be inefficient. However, considering urban development over decades, high-turnover urban construction has led to significant homogenization and a loss of regional identity. Cities lose their distinctiveness, becoming monotonous, and people gradually lose their sense of belonging to places and cities. For me, I am more inclined to optimize technology and design processes to achieve the uniqueness of architectural responses to specific sites, and to approach the careful intervention, mending, and renewal of our cities with the social responsibility of an architect. My projects provide tangible support for my philosophy.
