2024 Winner

Mr Ka Chi Law

Title: Architect
Company: Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates P.A. (London)
Design Philosophy:

I am honored to become a 40 Under 40 Award winner and to be recognised not only for my role in designing of some of the most pioneering projects globally, but most importantly my contribution in advocating the Hong Kong cultural and design scene. These can be evident from bringing Bing Sutt culture to a global stage and architecture exhibition in Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC). I am excited to soon bring my passion and expertise when I relocate home in the next 1-2 years, and the award will be a boost for me to contribute more to the industry and city.

I have been privileged to design some of the most innovative transformation projects. Denoted as “the world’s most ambitious skyscraper renovation” by Bloomberg, 8 Canada Square transforms the London icon of HSBC headquarters in the dated all-office district by injecting state-of-the-art sustainability and amenity features.

My other significant projects include the A&D award-winning Shenzhen Vanke Cloud Gradus and the London Bermondsey Project. One of London’s largest built-to-rent developments, it turns a former biscuit factory area into a vibrant community, and demonstrates how design can honor cultural memory while addressing modern needs.

My dedication extends beyond architecture into cultural preservation and advocacy. In 2021, I personally collaborated with Ferragamo on the Bing Sutt Truck campaign, reinterpreting the “Bing Sutt” culture through a mobile showroom with its nostalgic design and docking on the city’s iconic sites. This project demonstrates a passion of mine- advocating for Hong Kong’s culture, and blending architectural creativity with heritage conservation.

In 2018, I also led and exhibited the Urban Antidote exhibition at the HKAC, where I encouraged new perspectives on urban development and cultural awareness.
