Ms Kulthida Songkittipakdee

Title: Cofounder / Principal Architect
Company: HAS design and research
Design Philosophy:

Kulthida Songkittipakdee is a registered Thai architect. She was the first Asian architect among a thousand applications around the world to be awarded the scholarship by the Renzo Piano Foundation to work at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) in Paris. During her tenure at RPBW, she was involved in the Jerome L. Greene Science Center, Columbia University, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Expansion. At present, she is the principal architect of HAS design and research, with co-founder Jenchieh Hung, which explores Asia’s architectural language through a "design + research" parallel approach; it emphasises the analogy of nature and man-made nature, looking for another kind of new natural architecture through the city’s own derivatives. Their works encompass cultural buildings, installation art, exhibition design, and experimental projects. She is also invited to be a guest editor of Taiwan Architecture magazine (TA) and a visiting instructor at the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. In addition to contributing articles to several Thai design magazines, Songkittipakdee was invited by Li-Zenn publishing in 2016 to launch her own pocket book in Thai, which simply means "Arch: Life and Rhythm." She also played an important role in cultural exchange between Chinese and Thai as the first exhibition curator in Asia to establish the Thai Contemporary Architecture Exhibition in China. She has been invited to give design lectures for several universities, together with various international public lectures, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Shanghai, Rockbund Art Museum, Taichung Architect Association, Taiwan, etc. What she has done thus far, as well as her research and publishing contributions, will absolutely influence and motivate many young designers in Thailand and the region to find their own ways of designing ambitions in order to elevate their work and professions in the design industry with innovative ideas.
