Design Philosophy:
Talking about my philosophy, “Design is choosing the right option.” Expensive masterpiece seems to be easy but great designers can use their knowledge to make the best choice on design that make the things look great!
My past design, I was very glad that all of them were great and connected to people. I especially like to deal with those toilet spaces, which are small but connected to statutory requirements, daily life and needs. They are all unique in terms of sizes, constraints and thoughts. This is very challenging and interesting process for setting up new rules and to “jam” with different parties (clients, consultants…) for making the new design happen.
Why me? Why not?
In this era of the digital world, being a good architect is not only making things great. People like to share their hobbies and interests. But not much in terms of knowledge, especially for local students. I spent years learning to make fewer mistakes. Why not make it easier for our next generation? In 2012, I began to research and started writing articles for my book. In 2018 and 2021 two books were published. “Building Materials and technology in Hong Kong” and “The ABCs of Building Control in Hong Kong” respectively. I was invited to sit in the professional exam panels for architect exam papers. Since 2013, I was so fascinated with the BIM tech. Using the BIM technology in design, it enhanced my design and how I deliver the product to clients. With 8 years of time, as a woman in this field, I was selected as the assessor for HKIA and HKCIC’s BIM assessment.
I hope that I can be selected as one of the 40 under 40, showing that a good architect can do good design as well as teach to learn.
